Kristin M. Cano is the founder of the Law Offices of Kristin
M. Cano where she concentrates in the areas of corporate finance, securities
law, private placements, mergers & acquisitions, general corporate and partnership law,
particularly as it relates to emerging growth and start-up companies. Ms. Cano also has a background
in securities and corporate litigation, as
well as stockbroker litigation and SEC investigations and enforcement
proceedings.
Ms. Cano brings to her clients a unique perspective: past experience in litigation has enhanced Ms. Cano's transactional work giving her insight in shaping and steering transactions to avoid or at least isolate issues that could lead to later litigation. Additionally, Ms. Cano's perspective can prove to be invaluable in counseling clients to avoid litigation or at least to consider the economic impact litigation has on the clients, business and company goals.
Ms. Cano attended Pennsylvania State University, graduating in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. In 1975, Ms. Cano was awarded a Master of Science in Forensic Science from George Washington University. In preparation for work in the field of Forensic Chemistry and during the course of her work in a federal crime lab, Ms. Cano discovered that her true interest was in the field of law.
Ms. Cano graduated from Southwestern University School of Law, Los Angeles, California in 1978. Ms. Cano attended Southwestern from 1976 to 1978 as part of its second graduating class of the then new and unique S.C.A.L.E. Program. S.C.A.L.E. is a rigorous two year program designed to present the legal education in both a more practical and more theoretical perspecitve than the traditional three year law school program. The success of the S.C.A.L.E. program can be measured by the fact that Southwestern has recently graduated its 35th S.C.A.L.E. class.
Ms. Cano passed the California Bar in November, 1978 and began practicing in the area of business litigation.
In 1984, Ms. Cano was awarded a Masters of Laws in Securities Regulation by Georgetown University School of Law.
In 1984, Ms. Cano was associated with the law firm of Milberg, Weiss, Bershad, Specthrie & Lerach, a nationally prominent securities class action litigation firm.
